Surrounded by the mountains and with its rocky soil, rolling valleys and hills is the Dão Area A for wine-growing ideal area. The predominant grape varieties for the solid wood ripened red wines the touriga Nacional, tinta roriz, alfrocheiro and Jaen. The white wines are usually made on the basis of the encruzado, complemented or not with for example the: bical or cercial. With the wine houses of Casa de Santar, Quinta de Cabriz and recently the Quinta de Lemos – where the on all three spots also fantastic food is – know the region of high quality wines. Also the ‘normal’ wines from the region (that also applies wider for Portugal) are very good drinkable. The Lugar Do Pégo is up to half an hour driving distance of this renowned wine houses, and in the middle of the wine region of Dão so that we have a variety of wine houses and various wine routes to see.
